Planning

To make this platter, I planned to roll out a slab and cut out an oval shape. Then, I would carve the inside a bit to make a raised rim. For the decorative border, I picked out a stamp to make the pattern and another flower stamp for the middle. Finally, I let the platter dry between classes and painted it with underglaze before putting it in the kiln to fire.

Reflection

For this piece, there are a few things I would do differently next time. First, I would take more time to cut out the oval shape to make sure it was perfectly even. Then I would make the rim separately and attach it instead of carving it out. Lastly, I would take more time painting it so that the lines could be crisper.
