Unit 1+2

Stamp
To make this stamp, I first made a handle by rolling some clay into a cylinder shape. Then I made a circular piece and scored and slipped it into the handle. Then I made the letters by making thin ropes and scored and slipped them onto the circular part in a way that made my initials.
To do better next time, I would make the letters first so that I can make a circular piece that fits instead of guessing how big it needs to be.

Face
To make this piece, I first cut out the shape of the sun. Then, I started molding the face separately. I used a mixture of subtractive and addiditve carving to assemble the face. Then I scored and slipped the face to the sun to attach it. Then I carved out the back of it to decrease the thickness.
To do better next time, I would make sure to keep the clay wet every time I put it away so that it wouldnt dry out while Im still working on it.

Small piece with underglaze
For this piece I cut out a small square of clay to be my ¨canvas¨. Then I outlined my design lightly with underglaze, and then once I liked the design, I painted it on. I painted two layers of underglaze to get the colors more solid/saturated. Then I fired it and put on a clear coat of glaze.
To do better next time, I would make the square bigger so that I can make more detailed work.

Pinch pot cut in half
For this I made a simple pinch pot. First, after wedging my clay, I formed a ball and started pinching it into shape. I continued to pinch it evenly until I liked how it looked. Lastly I cut it in half with a wire cutter.
Next time I would focus on mostly pinching at the bottom so that the top doesnt get too thin.

pinch pot turned into something
For this piece I started with a wedged ball of clay and started making a basic pinch pot. After forming a round pinch pot I began shaping it into more of a heart shape. Then I used a rib tool to smooth both the outside and the inside and to get a cleaner shape.
Next time, instead of making a pinch pot to create the heart shape, I would cut out a slab and then arrange it into its shape.

2 pinch pots put together + animal project
For this piece, I started by making two pinch pots and scoring and slipping them together to form a hollow ball. Next I formed four small balls and scored and slipped them onto the bottom to give the piece stability. Then I made 2 ears and a nose and scored and slipped those onto the face. Next I cut a slit on the top to make it a piggy bank. Lastly I painted it with 4 layers of under glaze and fired it in the kiln. Then I added a clear coat of glaze and fired it again.
Next time I would cut the slit bigger because it does shrink slightly in the kiln which I didnt consider before.

Masterpiece tile
For this piece, I cut out a square from a slab to make the tile. Then I find a masterpiece that I wanted to replicate. Next I got my under-glazes ready and started painting. Then I put it in the kiln to be fired. Lastly I applied a clear coat and put it in the kiln to be fired again.
Next time I would make a bigger tile, because it was a struggle getting the details that small.

Historically inspired piece
First, I made two pinch pots and scored and slipped them together. Then I cut a hole in the top and cut out a pice of clay to make a neck for the pitcher and scored and slipped it around the hole. Next I cut out a piece from a slab to make the mouth of the pitcher and scored and slipped it on. Lastly I cut out a piece from a slab and scored and slipped it onto the pitcher.
The part that I thought went well was making the double pinch pots, I think it worked better than if I had only made one pinch pot. Next time I would measure how long I need certain pieces need to be.
